Grant Highlights: Making a Positive Difference
The range of causes and charities our donors give to is vast. From the local and regional to the national and international, there are also many different themes and problems they are seeking to address.
Our role is to help our donors make a positive difference through their philanthropy. Here are three examples of how grants from our DAF donors are making an impact:
Giving in a crisis
When disaster occurs, whether it be war, famine or an earthquake, many donors feel an impulse to do something to help. Philanthropic support can fund humanitarian aid and different areas of disaster response. Grants totaling over £100,000 were made to support the people of Ukraine, after Russia’s invasion in February. The funds were raised quickly and efficiently at a time of overwhelming need.
Helping the homeless
Homelessness in the UK remains stubbornly high with the Big Issue reporting 227,000 people still experiencing homelessness, whether rough sleeping, sleeping in vans and sheds or temporary accommodation. A grant of £250,000 was made to provide homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills to get them back into education, training and employment. Homelessness charities provide shelter but also offer all-encompassing support to those in need to enable them to get their lives back on track.
Supporting families
When a child faces a life-threatening or life-limiting condition, their families want to make the most of every moment they have together. Grants such as the one for £50,000 to a UK charity focused on providing support to families with terminally ill children, make an enormous difference. They help to fund a helpline, connect families with relevant services and support children’s palliative care services and professionals. In these distressing situations, these grants enable families to create special memories in the limited time they have left with loved ones.
