Grant Highlights: Helping Youth Make a Start on a Bright Future
Charitable giving is often driven by personal interest or connection to an issue. Here are three examples of how grants recommended by some of our DAF donors are supporting young people across the UK and beyond.
Supporting young people from marginalised backgrounds
West London is an area with deep inequality. There are 19,000 children and young people in West London who currently need additional support. Without it, they are more likely to face challenges in later life, including unemployment, social isolation and poor mental and emotional health. A $32,500 grant was recommended to a West London charity which builds trusted relationships, provides specialist support and joins up families, schools and local organisations to deliver a personalised two-year support plan for each child.
Changing lives through sport
One in four Scottish people experiences mental health issues in their lifetime. For those young people and adults across Scotland who are struggling, engaging in team sports and community programmes can help create positive change in their lives. NPT UK facilitated a $50,000 grant to a Scottish charity which uses football-inspired training and personal development to empower different groups at risk of social exclusion, such as those experiencing homelessness, those with refugee status and those with additional needs.
Building the next generation of global leaders
For many low-income, first-generation university students, development opportunities and contact networks are limited. A $200,000 grant was recommended to a US non-profit organisation working to transform the lives of these talented young people across the globe through a leadership development programme, which includes masterclasses led by top educators and universities around the world.
