Five Questions Worth Considering for Clients’ End-of-Year Giving

Author John Canady, Chief Executive Officer

Statistics suggest people feel most charitable at the end of year, during what many in the nonprofit sector call ‘Giving Season.’ It’s estimated that a quarter of giving in the UK occurs in the last three months of the year.

Charities also view it as a crucial time to meet their fundraising goals, especially this year following cost-of-living raises and the recent soar of UK inflation rates.

As 2022 draws to a close, your clients might want to think about making a final philanthropic contribution. Here are some key questions to consider to ensure they have the biggest impact this Giving Season.

What inspires your client?

Your clients may already have areas of interest they have previously supported this year, such as social justice, children’s health care, climate change, humanitarian aid or education. Would they like to make a further donation to one of these causes, or use this time to make an additional one-off donation to a different area of interest?

Where does you client want to have impact?

Does your client want to make an impact domestically, in their local community, or do they want to give internationally to support a global issue? Remember that your clients can use their DAF to recommend grants to charities anywhere in the world, with NPT UK conducting all the necessary due diligence.

What about family?

Is this an opportunity to bring their family and their interests into the giving plan? Or to consider setting up a DAF in their name to introduce them to charitable giving? Equally, a donation in their family or friend’s name to a favourite and/or personal organisation is a fantastic way to celebrate the upcoming festive season and honour a loved one.

Is this a time to give more than money?

Grantmaking is just one way your client can achieve their philanthropical goals for future generations. Volunteering time, participating in campaigns and encouraging others in their network to support causes are all effective practices that your client can invest in to help build a better world.

What are their plans for the future?

While your clients might have already made significant donations this year, it’s worth reminding them to also consider making top-up contributions to their DAF account before the year ends. This will ensure their future philanthropic plans are achievable and will help your client make a greater impact in the years ahead.
