Accelerate Progress this International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is on the 8th of March, a UN-sponsored day to celebrate the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women around the world. This year, the theme is “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” Your clients can use their donor-advised funds (DAFs) to invest in women and provide support to organisations around the world who are doing important work.
In recent months, donors with DAFs at NPT UK have supported services for women and girls. A donor recommended a £5,000 grant to a charity that provides a two-year training and support programme for women across London who have experienced gender-based violence and other forms of disadvantage, and operates a social enterprise that increases employment opportunities for women.
Another NPT UK donor makes monthly contributions to an organisation that provides weekly workshops in different art forms to enhance the lives of survivors of forced displacement and gender-based violence. The workshops aim to provide a welcoming space where women can socially interact, be creative and play together, strengthening confidence, resilience and identity.
To emphasize the need to support “ALL women and girls,” this year the UN has identified three key areas that need joint action:
• Advance women’s and girls’ rights
• Promote gender equality
• Foster empowerment
DAFs provide your clients with an easy, cost-effective and efficient way to support charitable organisations all over the world, a method that is likely to be appreciated by women philanthropists. Women are set to inherit a significant portion of the world’s wealth over the next few decades, and more than 60% of the UK’s wealth is expected to be in the hands of women this year. For your clients intending to allocate part of their wealth to philanthropy, DAFs can provide an easy solution.
