How Donors Can Support Relief and Recovery Efforts in North Africa
On Friday, September 8, a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, with nearly 2,500 people losing their lives and over 1,400 individuals suffering critical injuries. Homes, buildings and historic landmarks have been damaged or reduced to rubble across the region. Only a few days later, more than 5,000 people are presumed dead and 10,000 missing after heavy rains in northeastern Libya caused two dams to collapse.
As donors around the world ask how they can support those directly affected, NPT UK has created a non-exhaustive list of organisations actively engaged in relief efforts.
The organisations below were selected as a representative sample of organisations that can accept contributions from UK-based donors yet have extensive experience in the country or region as well as close partnerships with local NGOs.
